Maybe you are looking for something different to do on family night. You have done a slew of games and are all gamed out. Or maybe the movies you have watched just aren't as thrilling or interesting as you would like. Maybe you are looking for something different to take you away from what is happening in our world today. If you have not experienced the multi-season TV series The Chosen about the life of Christ you are missing something special. This is different---really different. Using numerous episodes over multiple seasons allows the story, relationships and character development to play out more fully than a typical two-three-hour film about the life of Jesus. You get to know Jesus, Mary and all those connected with His life on a more three-dimensional level. It does this by adding details and storylines for the characters that are not specifically mentioned in the bible. However, the additions the writers have made are plausible for historical and cultural context and do not contradict the Bible. After one episode I think you will find it to be truly binge worthy TV. (The only one you may want to check out before for those under 10 is the first episode where the demons are exercised out of Mary Magdeline. All other episodes are totally family friendly.)
What makes this series unique is that it is a totally crowd- funded media project. It is currently the highest crowd funded media project in history, with nineteen thousand supporters who have together given over ten million dollars. All the episodes have been filmed in Weatherford, Texas at Capernaum Village. Season one since being released in early 2021 has been viewed over fifty million times in 180 countries. Dallas Jenkins, the director and one of the cowriters has a degree in Biblical Studies. From the beginning, he has invited an ecumenical panel to consult on the show to ensure historical, cultural, and biblical accuracy. It is the hope of the writers that the show will encourage viewers to read the gospels with a renewed passion. Their goals are solidly biblical, and the show is bearing fruit to the glory of God. The show is distributed through Vid Angel. It can be seen in various ways. There is a Chosen app (it's free) and the Angel Studios App also carries the show. YouTube carries Seasons 1 and 2. There are also DVDS available of seasons one and two. Season 3 is set to premier sometime in November of 2022. I can't say enough about it. It's different. But I think in the world we live in today we are ready for different.
